Jake Sully Costume

Jake Sully is the main protagonist from the 2009 movie Avatar. A marine born on August 24th, 2126, he is paralyzed from the waist down in a way not detailed or shown in the movie. He has learned that his brother died and volunteers to be his replacement in the Avatar Program. At the beginning of the movie, Jake Sully arrives on the planet Pandora to become a driver for the Avatar Program, a scientific endeavor to study the native sentient race living on Pandora called Na’vi.

Jake Sully doesn’t take this job too seriously, initially using the opportunity to spy on the research team for his commanding officer in the military. The military only see the Na’vi as an obstacle to a mineral resource called Unobtanium they are assisting RDA, a mining corporation, to acquire. As the movie progresses and Jake’s interactions with the Na’vi become more intimate and frequent, he befriends Neytiri. he becomes empathic with their plight and eventually begins to fight for them. He becomes so close to the Na’vi that he practices their customs and traditions, and eventually is recognized as one of their own. When the military advances onto and destroys the Na’vi Hometree, Jake Sully takes up arms with the Na’vi and fights back not only the military encroachment, but also secures the planet from RDA. At the conclusion of the movie he opts to leave his human body and permanently move his consciousness into his Na’vi body.
